Kathryn Patterson, a student at Franklin & Marshall College, is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after a protest in Lancaster, New York Post reports.

Over the last few days, protests have taken place in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, following the police shooting of Ricardo Munoz, The Washington Post reported.

The publication wrote that Ricardo was fatally shot after he allegedly ran at a police officer with a knife. Protests have emerged in Lancaster following the incident.

Kathryn Patterson & the Lancaster protest

Kathryn Patterson is facing felony and misdemeanor charges following a protest in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

According to the New York Post, Kathryn was one of 13 people who were arrested on Monday, September 14th, for charges including arson, riot, vandalism and criminal conspiracy.

The publication wrote that Kathryn, along with nine other people, is being held on a $1 million bail.

Following her arrest, a GoFundMe page was set up to raise money for Kathryn and her family. At the time of writing, the page has raised $53,560 of its $60,000 goal.

Who is Kathryn Patterson?

Kathryn is 20 years old and an undergraduate student at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster.

She is an “ally” at her college’s Black Student Union and a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, as per information from Kathryn’s GoFundMe page.

“Kat was providing medical attention to injured demonstrators and has now been wrongfully accused of crimes she could not possibly commit,” claims her GoFundMe page.

Kathryn is from Mercersburg which is about two hours from Lancaster.

According to her Facebook profile, she studied at the Mercersburg Academy and previously shared a photo marching with other people, captioned: “BLM, all day every day.”

Kathryn’s father speaks out

Kathryn’s father Chip Patterson has spoken to the Associated Press (via USA Today) following the arrest.

He called his daughter’s $1 million bail “outrageous” and claimed:

“Everything that I know so far, which is not a lot, indicates that Kat is not guilty of those charges. But then again, we’ll have to wait and see.

“I cannot tell you how long this night has been. I think regardless of what these people did or didn’t do, the bail amount is just outrageous and clearly against the Eighth Amendment.”
