Arsenal supporters have taken Tierney to their hearts following his move from Celtic
Since overcoming his initial struggles with injuries, Kieran Tierney has become one of the most popular players at the Emirates.
Arsenal fans have been thoroughly won over by the left-back, who has made 46 appearances for the club.
Tierney was named Player of the Month for June by the club’s fans, and recently drew praise from the likes of Gary Lineker and Chris Sutton for his stunning solo goal against West Brom.
The 23-year-old has now been hailed by Gunners legend David Seaman.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the former keeper said he’s been an admirer since Tierney’s days at Celtic.
Asked about Tierney’s “growing influence on the team”, Seaman said: “Massive influence. I felt sorry for him when he first came. We all knew what he was capable of when he was at Celtic, but he never had that chance to show it because he just kept getting injured.
“He had a bad shoulder injury and got a few other injuries, but his crossing ability is brilliant.
“And, to be fair, that (the goal against West Brom) is not a bad goal with his wrong foot, is it?”
Asked if he could be considered a future Arsenal captain, Seaman said: “He’s certainly that sort of material, but you don’t go upsetting your main striker by taking the captaincy off him, and obviously now he’s (Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang) signed a new contract I think that’s been put to bed, so I think Aubameyang will be captain.
“Tierney as a vice-captain is great. I was vice-captain at Arsenal for a long time and I loved it.
“With Kieran Tierney you get that ‘true grit’ thought going through your head whenever he plays.
“I’ve seen some pictures of him at the training ground and he’s got just his shorts and t-shirt on and it was absolutely freezing, and all the other players have got leggings and tracksuit tops and everything on.
“He’s a guy that wears his heart on his sleeve, but he’s a really good player too.”
Arsenal paid Celtic £25m for Tierney in August 2019. The Scotsman has won 16 caps for his country.
