Speaking on the Gwlad Tidings Podcast, Patrick Boyland has shared an interesting transfer plan that Everton have lined up.
The journalist has claimed that Everton like the idea of signing a new right-back to provide some competition for Seamus Coleman, adding that the Toffees aren’t fully convinced that Jonjoe Kenny is the right man for the job.
“They like the right-back, they like the idea of a new right-back, but I think that’s more likely to happen in the summer at this stage,” Boyland said.
“They’re not 100 per cent sure on Jonjoe Kenny, so maybe he goes out on loan or on a permanent at some point and then they bring in another right-back to properly compete with Seamus Coleman.”
This is certainly interesting to hear.
Kenny looked to be a real prospect during his loan in the Bundesliga last season, but he seemingly hasn’t done enough to prove himself at Goodison Park, with Burnley now reportedly interested in signing him.
The fact that Everton want a new right-back is intriguing though, especially when you consider that both Mason Holgate and Alex Iwobi have been utilised in that role this season.
It’s clear that there isn’t much depth there, so this sort of signing makes sense, but as Boyland says, it may not happen until the summer.
No names have been specified as of yet, but it’s certainly intriguing to hear this insight into where Everton feel their squad needs strengthening.
This is a situation that is worth keeping an eye on.
