Trevor Sinclair has warned Arsenal on talkSPORT’s White & Jordan at the prospect of signing Brighton goalkeeper Matty Ryan.
The former Manchester City winger stated that Ryan being dropped as Brighton’s number one ‘tells you everything’, as he doesn’t feel he would be a good fit for Arsenal.
When it comes to Arsenal and Brighton transfer rumours in recent times, Yves Bissouma is the name that always crops up given the rumoured interest [Football London], but his teammate has now been suggested.
Less than a year after selling Emi Martinez and replacing him with Alex Runarsson, Arsenal are on the lookout for another back-up keeper.
Whilst Sinclair was being told on talkSPORT about the options Arsenal could go for this month, such as David Raya from Brentford, Ryan’s name was also suggested to him and this is how he responded.
“Well, he’s got plenty of experience,” said Sinclair. “But the fact that he’s not in the starting line-up, it tells you everything you need to know.
“If he’s not good enough for Brighton’s first-team. Why should he be good enough as number two for Arsenal two?
“Emi Martinez, it was a necessity because he had deserved his chance to play first-team football. He was desperate to play first-team football and he was given that option by Aston Villa.
“But bringing in Matty Ryan. The fact that he lost his position in the Brighton starting XI means to me that he probably a little bit short.”
At the age of 28, Ryan is more than capable of being a number two and he was a solid option as Brighton’s number one for many years.
The Australia international may have lost his place in the team, but that doesn’t mean that he cannot add strength in depth in North London.
Emi Martinez was a number two 12 months ago, but he’s now arguably one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, so it’s all about the opportunity and taking it.
