Nedum Onuoha has urged Andy Carroll to leave Newcastle and join Sheffield United where he can cause ‘chaos’, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

The former Manchester City defender thinks rock-bottom Sheffield United could do with a player like the towering Newcastle man.

Chris Wilder’s side are already heading for the drop even though it’s not the halfway stage of the season given that they have picked up only one Premier League win this season.

Onuoha thinks if there is any sense of hope at Bramall Lane then signing Carroll would help them in one of their many problem areas.

“I am looking at a team like Sheffield United and thinking to myself ‘do they really want to try and stay up this year?’” said Onuoha. “Or are they just going to see what happens?

“I think because of the fact they have scored nine goals in the league this year. I think they need to bring in a striker who is a different type of threat to what they have tried so far.

“For me, somebody with a point to prove, because for the past couple of years he has not done much at all, even if it was to be a loan, is for them to bring in an Andy Carroll, so they have got an aerial threat.

“Not just to score headers in the box and so on. It means they can get the ball front to back and bring in their attacking players in a different sort of way – So, bring someone in who brings in a sense of chaos and just go for it.”

Carroll came on as a second-half substitute as Newcastle were the victims to Sheffield United winning their first game of the campaign on Tuesday.

Whilst it was a first for Wilder’s men this season, Carroll, who is on £75k-a-week at St James’ Park [Spotrac], also netted his first goal for the club since his return last week.

Maybe the Carroll of ten years ago would be welcomed by those at Sheffield United, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if their fans prefer to push with what they have got rather than sign the Englishman.
