Report: West Ham have made moves for two Serie A stars; looks like neither will join

According to Calciomercato, West Ham United have made a move to try and sign Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha.

It’s claimed that West Ham made a move to try and loan in Pau Lopez from Roma, having been worked through an intermediary.

However, the former Tottenham goalkeeper doesn’t want to join West Ham, and the Hammers have looked at another stopper in the Italian capital.

The report states that West Ham have ‘already tried to test the ground’ for Lazio stopper Strakosha, but then turned their attention to Lopez.

That would suggest that the attempts to land Strakosha didn’t particularly go well, so don’t expect him to arrive in East London this month.

Strakosha, 25, has racked up nearly 200 appearances for Lazio, but has often been overlooked in favour of veteran stopper Pepe Reina.

The Albanian international is a quality shot-stopper and a huge presence at 6ft 4in tall, and West Ham would be wise to try again in the summer if Reina continues to start.

A move for a goalkeeper is still a surprise though; Lukasz Fabianski is back from injury and Darren Randolph is more than dependable backup, so adding Strakosha or even Lopez would be a shock this month.
