West Ham United are ready to pay £25 million for Red Bull Salzburg forward Patson Daka as David Moyes prefers the “next Thierry Henry” to Arkadiusz Milik, as reported by AreaNapoli.
In truth, reports suggesting Milik was West Ham’s number one striker target always seemed a little odd.
A 6ft 1in target man who’s more about presence than pace, the Poland international is certainly more Sebastien Haller than Michail Antonio.
Moyes, however, wants a striker capable of pressing from the front, running the channels and providing an energetic outlet on the counter attack.
That’s largely why he preferred Antonio to the now-departed Haller at the London Stadium.
So, despite reports suggesting West Ham have launched a £6.3 million bid with his contract due to expire in July, Milik always felt like something of a square peg for the Premier League high-flyers (CalcioNapoli).
AreaNapoli believes Moyes would prefer to sign Daka instead, a quicksilver 22-year-old who loves to drift wide and use his explosive pace to dart in behind opposition defences.
The Zambia international, labelled the “next Thierry Henry” by a former coach, has scored 15 times in 17 games for Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg, doing a fine job of replacing Erling Haaland in the process.
AreaNapoli, meanwhile, believes West Ham are willing to pay £25 million for a youngster who moved to Europe from central Africa four years ago.
Daka is far less experienced than Milik and, unlike the 56-cap former Ajax and Bayer Leverkusen ace, has never proved himself in a major European league.
But, to put it simply, he fits Moyes’ style of play far better than the Napoli number nine.
