According to 90Min, rivals Rangers and Celtic are leading the race to sign Liverpool striker Taiwo Awoniyi.
It’s claimed that a host of clubs are interested in signing Awoniyi, who is currently on loan at Union Berlin in the Bundesliga.
The favourites right now are Rangers and Celtic though, as they are thought to be ahead of the competition.
Planning for the future: Where Celtic go from here
Awoniyi has failed to secure a work permit to play in England since signing for Liverpool in 2015, but he has a greater chance of landing one in Scotland.
Add in that he is playing Bundesliga football, and Awoniyi could have a realistic chance of being a ‘special talent’ for work permit purposes.
Liverpool would allegedly want £5million for Awoniyi, though it’s hard to see one of the Old Firm sides paying that unless they are forced to sell Alfredo Morelos or Odsonne Edouard.

The 23-year-old Nigerian has bagged five goals and two assists in 13 Bundesliga games this season, showing his quality at a high level of competition.
Breaking through at Liverpool seems unlikely, and Steven Gerrard may now be hoping to not only get a favour from the Reds, but also pip Celtic to a deal in the process.
