Free-agent goalkeeper Orjan Nyland is in talks over a January move to Norwich City after his release from Aston Villa, according to the Eastern Daily Press.
When you consider the problems Daniel Farke has had to deal with between the sticks this season, the Canaries deserve huge praise for moving four points clear at the top of the Championship table.
Tim Krul, arguably the finest shot-stopper in the division, has only recently returned after spending nine games on the treatment table.
But a bout of COVID means the Dutch international will be unavailable once again for this weekend’s trip to Cardiff.
So will Michael McGovern, with a serious hamstring problem ruling out a veteran glovesman who had stepped up quite spectacularly in Krul’s absence.
EDP reports that Norwich are in talks with Nyland but the Norway international is not expected to arrive at Carrow Road in time for the trip to South Wales on Saturday.
Nyland is understandably short of match fitness too, having recently recovered from surgery. His most recent first-team appearance came three months ago, with Villa cancelling his contract following the £20 million signing of Emi Martinez.
Nyland never managed to establish himself as Villa’s number one shot stopper but he certainly had his moments.
The one-time Bundesliga ace produced a series of top-class performances as Aston Villa reached the EFL Cup final in 2020.
EDP adds that 20-year-old Daniel Barden could make his league debut for Norwich between the sticks against Cardiff.
