Mikel Arteta cannot believe that Thomas Partey has only been able to play two full games for Arsenal since he arrived, as per his comments to Football London.
Partey was Arsenal’s biggest signing of the summer, with great excitement forming around his arrival.
However, the defensive midfielder has struggled badly with injury since coming into Arsenal’s team.
Partey first picked up a problem in November, and he was rushed back to play in the North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.
Unfortunately that looks a poor decision in hindsight, as he only worsened the issue by featuring in the contest.
Partey has now missed Arsenal’s last six league matches, but he is now back training and fit again.
And Arteta is looking forward to bringing the Ghanaian back into his starting line-up sooner rather than later.
He said: “I think he’s got a different presence. I think he brings something different to the team. It’s not just about his talent it’s not, about his physicality, it’s who he is as a person. He makes players better around him and that’s a big quality.
“It’s incredible that we are in January, we signed him in the summer and we only played him twice.
“So, we haven’t really seen the impact that we believe he could have on the team. Obviously, we have missed him. On the other hand we’ve seen players stepping in as well. When that happens they give us some really positive news as well. But I think it’s going to be a big bonus if we can keep him fit.”
Whether Partey will start against Crystal Palace tonight remains to be seen, as Arsenal’s results have picked up in recent weeks.
However, his availability is a massive boost, as a player of his quality will only help to increase Arsenal’s chances of success.
Arsenal have actually been in very good form of late, and with Partey in their line-up there is great excitement that they could climb even higher up the table.
