Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks started against Fulham on Wednesday night, playing a part in the 1-1 home draw.
Winks took to the field as speculation surrounds his future at Tottenham, with Spanish clubs seemingly keen.
The 24-year-old hasn’t been a regular starter for Jose Mourinho this season, and his place in the England squad for the European Championships is now in doubt.
Winks has at least played a little more in recent weeks having impressed Mourinho, but that hasn’t really slowed down the speculation.
Earlier this week, Guillem Balague reported that Valencia had made a second loan bid for Winks, having already had one offer rejected with Spurs making the deal ‘unlikely’.
AS then reported that Valencia had turned their attention towards Arsenal-owned Lucas Torreira, believing that a move for Winks wouldn’t happen.
Balague has now offered an update on the situation, claiming that Villarreal – managed by Unai Emery – and Sevilla are both keen to sign Winks, who has Spanish heritage through his grandparents.
Balague added that he thinks Spurs may let Winks go over the summer, and that the midfielder does fancy playing in Spain even if it won’t happen right now.
“I’ve got the impression that Harry Winks admires Spanish football, and that at some point, he would like to play in Spain” said Balague. “I also have the impression that, even though he’s been playing the last couple of games, Jose Mourinho doesn’t consider him an essential part of the team.”
“I think he will play a little bit more than he has been playing, but with the idea of selling him in the summer. Valencia have made two approaches to Spurs, both with the idea of taking him on loan, I believe that they will pay the wages as well, but both of them have been rejected so far. Valencia don’t think that they’re gonna be able to get the player. Spurs are saying ‘we’re not getting rid of him, he is here to stay’ – for now. I know that Sevilla looked into it, Villarreal looked into it, Valencia were happy to propose a loan, but it looks very very unlikely at the moment,” he added.
