Lee Dixon raved about Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele on Amazon Prime and how he is playing ‘some of the best football we have seen him play’.
The Highbury legend stated that ‘everyone wrote him off’ when he first joined Tottenham, but he has since shut his critics up.
Ndombele, 24, did find life tough during the early stages of his Tottenham career and being called out by Jose Mourinho has since proved to be the turning point in a positive way.
Dixon praised Mourinho for how he has handled Ndombele and how the player has got up to falling to the floor pretty much as soon as he arrived in North London.
“You put that down to maybe man-management from the coach,” said Dixon. “But also the player himself because it’s quite easy once you get into a little bit of a rut to say ‘you know what I need a move and I need to get away’.
“I think he’s knuckled down and he has found a position for himself that he is now playing some of the best football we have seen him play.
“When he first got into the side, I don’t think enough credence was given in how hard it is to play in the Premier League and everyone wrote him off straightaway.
“We have all been critical of him, at times, but for Son and Kane he is a brilliant foil for them.”
Whilst Spurs and Ndombele will be annoyed that they dropped two points against Fulham yesterday, it has still been a strong start to the season than most expected.
Recent results in the league aren’t filling the fans with joy, but they are still competing near the top in the Premier League.
They are in the League Cup final, they put their name in the hat for the next round of the FA Cup and will compete in the knockout stages of the Europa League during these forthcoming months.
And someone like Ndombele has been key to that and will be even more crucial if they are to lift silverware this term.
