Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter to deliver some bad news to Newcastle supporters regarding a transfer target.
Yesterday, MilanNews24 revealed that Newcastle were seriously challenging AC Milan for the signing of Torino maestro Soualiho Meïté.
Former AS Monaco midfielder Soualiho Meité will join AC Milan on loan with buy option from Torino, confirmed and done deal. Negotiations on also to extend the contract of Hakan Calhanoglu. #ACMilan https://t.co/njkNG2fI39

Now, however, the extremely reliable Romano has confirmed that the Paris-born midfielder will be heading to the San Siro.
The Italian journalist states that the 26-year-old will join the Serie A giants on an initial loan deal, with an option for them to make the deal permanent.
If Romano says that it’s a done deal, then Newcastle should start looking elsewhere.
If Steve Bruce really was interested, then he can’t feel too down about losing out to a club of AC Milan’s stature in a transfer battle.
The Italian outfit can offer European football and the opportunity for silverware, whereas the Magpies are in no position to achieve either of those things under the ex-Sunderland boss.
On the contrary, perhaps this is a blessing in disguise.
Newcastle don’t really need another centre-midfield option, in our view.
Bruce has Matty Longstaff, Sean Longstaff, Isaac Hayden and Jeff Hendrick at his disposal.
Four options may not sound like many. However, WhoScored shows that Newcastle have used a 4-4-2 formation more than any other this term, which only requires two central midfielders.
In that respect, whatever money Bruce has should probably be spent on another forward to properly push Callum Wilson, or maybe a first-choice right-back.
